The Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts recently announced the winners of the 2016 Communicator Awards, and AndiSites Inc. has been honored with an Award of Distinction for the Ocutech website.
This project was a WordPress website redesign & development for low-vision accessibility for Ocutech, Inc., a worldwide leader in developing advanced hi-quality telescopic low vision aids (bioptics) for the visually impaired. In 1996, Ocutech received international attention when it developed the first ever autofocusing bioptic telescope for the visually impaired. Ocutech bioptic telescopes are prescribed by Low Vision specialists worldwide, and are used by tens of thousands of visually impaired individuals throughout the world.
The design was created using guidelines from the National Federation for the Blind to speak to Ocutech’s end users; and development leveraged WooCommerce to display product information, and a combination of Gravity Forms and a powerful membership system for online ordering. But the primary challenge was presenting an enormous amount of content in a way that makes information easy to find and understand. Multiple navigation areas organize audience-specific content, and intentional pathways funnel users to the information that will help them most.
With over 6,000 entries received from across the US and around the world, the Communicator Awards is the largest and most competitive awards program honoring the creative excellence for communications professionals. It is judged and overseen by the Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts (AIVA), a 600+ member organization of leading professionals from various disciplines of the visual arts dedicated to embracing progress and the evolving nature of traditional and interactive media. Current IAVA membership represents a “Who’s Who” of acclaimed media, advertising, and marketing firms including: AirType Studio, Condè Nast, Disney, Keller Crescent, Lockheed Martin, Monster.com, MTV, rabble+rouser, Time Inc., Tribal DDB, Yahoo!, and many others.
“The work entered in the 22nd Annual Communicator Awards serves as a benchmark in gauging the innovative ideas and capabilities of communications and marketing professionals around the world. Each year, our entrants continue to amaze by reinventing the ways we communicate and market in an ever-changing industry.” noted Linda Day, executive director of the Academy Interactive and Visual Arts. She added, “On behalf of the entire Academy, we want to congratulate this year’s Communicator Award Entrants and Winners for their passion and dedication. We are honored to be given the opportunity to recognize such outstanding work.”
