AndiSites’ years-long relationship with the NC Department of Justice started with a full redesign and conversion to WordPress of their main website and that of their affiliated NC Justice Academy. The Opportunity

As the primary source of important information for North Carolina citizens, the high-traffic NCDOJ website serves a vital purpose. However, a confusing navigational structure, outdated design, clunky Content Management System, and inward-facing content focus wasn’t letting the website serve its purpose–or its diverse audience–well.

The look-and-feel of the old website suggested a cold, impersonal institution that wasn’t in line with the positive, helpful services that the NCDOJ offers. Because of the way the CMS worked (or often didn’t work), it was also difficult for the NCDOJ to properly share the plethora of news items and announcements from external and internal sources. The biggest issue, though, was that although the site contained a huge amount of information, specific subjects were almost impossible to find easily. Most users resorted to using the search box, which unhelpfully directed them to a Google-driven listing with oodles of irrelevant results.

The NCDOJ engaged AndiSites for a complete overhaul of the main website and that of their affiliated NC Department of Justice.

“Our NCDOJ website was outdated and in serious need of a overhaul to ensure we served our NC citizens effectively. AndiSites did a phenomenal job jumping in and assisting us on the journey of building a top-notch website that provides our citizens with resources when they need it most!”

“We at NCDOJ would like to say THANK YOU to AndiSites for your quick response to our support request today. You are always friendly to work with and your professional knowledge shined today! The Solution

AndiSites spent time onsite with NCDOJ’s internal stakeholders to get to know the organization better. We learned about their services, their mission, and the requests that they get most often from citizens. We defined what some of the things are about the NCDOJ that might surprise people, as well as what misconceptions there are.

We conducted a thorough content audit and analysis, untangling thousands of pages to identify what content was out-of-date, what needed to be rewritten for better understanding, and what could be cut or combined. Then we created a site architecture based on user needs and also included alternate ways for visitors to get what they need quickly, including large calls to action throughout the site, intuitive pathways, and a prominent “What would you like to do?” section.

An easy-to-read, easy-to-administer home page slider highlights recent accomplishments. A searchable, filterable document library provides easy access to needed information. Easy-to-use forms for consumer complaints and reporting robocalls ensure that citizens’ requests are received and acted on. An escape feature on the Domestic Violence page protects that page’s visitors if they’re walked in on while browsing. Clear, clean design and page organization brings complex information down to earth, making it readable and easy to act on when needed.

Since the original launch of the NC Department of Justice and NC Justice Academy websites, AndiSites also partnered with the NCDOJ to create the NC Sexual Assault Kit Initiative website and continues to provide enhancements to all sites to better serve the people of North Carolina.
